Fall 2018: TRBA determined in their annual business meeting to restructure the association
[[There is MUCH more to come. Come back at least once a month and/or look to TRBA's Facebook Page for video updates weekly.]]
- The original emphasis was to develop a 5-7year revitalization plan with Dougald McLaurin as the leader of the association.
- A sample/non-detailed plan of action was revealed to the association with possible plans at the time
- Fall 2019: TRBA's Leadership Team brought forward a more advanced revitalization plan for review at their annual meeting with several recommendations.
- Leadership teams were to begin meeting January 2020 to detail the process
- One of the motions related to the restructure was tables for the Spring Meeting 2020
- March 2020: The "story" of an unknown, "new" virus that had been affecting certain areas of the world had gotten to our shores.
- On March 12th. TRBA received our first call from Baptists on Mission about contingency plans for our response to COVID-19.
- With the "shut-down" as a result of COVID, we determined only to have an informational meeting for Spring 2020 and not to bring the tabled motion to meeting with so few churches represented.
- Of course, the Fall and Spring meetings through 2020 and into 2021. Again, limited items of business were dealt with at those meetings.
- Summer 2021: After several "false starts," we determined we would have our Fall Meeting in 2021. TRBA Staff and others among our prayer partners began to pray about the restructure. TRBA staff began to look at individuals to serve on our ministry teams and how to deal with the changes in our approach to the restructure as a result of COVID. We began to put together teams and have discussions with folks in Baptist Life to assist in the restructure process. One thing we discovered even with this "change" is the process will be "fluid" and there will be many changes as we progress towards the "finished product."
- We continue to "re-group," but progress has been made,
- In May, BSCNC called Todd Unzicker as their new Executive Director-Treasurer. Todd unveiled his restructure plan for the state convention and it was approved by Board of Directors. It is now in the process of implementation.
- At the Fall Meeting 2021 we introduced the "pathways" towards revitalization -- that will remain our emphasis through the restructuring process
- We also voted on the tabled motion, which passed and the process began to intensify.
- Fall 2021: As listed above, we introduced the pathways. There are 5 areas emphasized in our pathways with the "end result" remains church revitalization realized if we follow the Lord's directives and work together as His churches in the communities we serve.
- With the pathways established and BSCNC's restructuring process beginning, something other than COVID entered into the picture. If the state convention and the association is restructuring, perhaps there are areas we need to "work together" to accomplish our shared purpose and goal.
- Though church revitalization remains the "end goal" of TRBA's restructure," the emphasis of leadership who is to lead during the process has transitioned to who will lead after the process has been established.
- Throughout November 2021 - February 2022, there have been many conversations/planning meetings/season of prayer are now in process of becoming the emphasis towards revitalization
- First Quarter 2022: The restructuring process is "coming together" and will become finalized in the near future.
- Our current plan is to detail where we are and how we will accomplish it at our Spring Meeting on May 2, 2022 at Rock Spring Baptist Church.
- In essence, we are about to enter the 5th year of what would have been the process. With 18-24 months left, the end time will coincide with should be my "exit" from the scene. As the search process proceeds, the the search team will have a clear picture of who they should call as AMS.
- COVID, the restructure of the state convention, and my timeline as AMS of TRBA have changed the restructuring, but the pathways being developed enable to churches of the association to do something that NO CHURCH since 1830s have done:
- To reimagine, envision, build an association "from the ground up" that encompasses what they need and want the association to be to help them reach THIS generation.
- EVERYTHING is on the table for discussion.
- The "simple outline," as it stands now is this:
- We will be working with a process called Denominee -- a part of the FutureChurch/Will Mancini network
- We will be working in partnership with NAMB and BSCNC each step of the process
- We will be working in close partnership with every member church each step of the way:
- Communication is key -- and we will begin those "first" conversations within the month
- Cooperation is key -- we will enlist input from every church through their church leadership/active members
- We will be calling individual churches/groups of churches for prayer
- Etc. etc. etc.
- We will NOT forsake the immediate needs of the churches as we discover what they are/have requests from the churches
- We will be highlighting training events in the area
- We stand ready to respond to specific needs
- We are inviting new pastors to come with their church leadership for strategy session, discovering community needs, church and leadership assessments
